The records consist of pamphlets, booklets, and newsletters used for the purpose of mission promotion. They are filed alphabetically. Few are dated. The newsletters include periodically published newsletters and program brochures such as the Missionary-for-a-Day and Missionary Sponsorship promotions. The file labeled Country Brochures consists of a series of brochures, each generically titled by the country about which it is written. Brochures in this file that are not a part of the series are noted by title and placed immediately following the series brochure for the same country.

The American Lutheran Church (1961-1987) was formed by the merger of the American Lutheran Church (1930-1960), the Evangelical Lutheran Church and the United Evangelical Lutheran Church. Representatives from each of the constitutent churches formed the Joint Union Committee in 1950 to effect the merger. Presidents of the constituent bodies at the merger were Henry F.
